FAQ

01. What does MOWOOT do and what not?

MOWOOT stimulates the colon in a NON-invasive way (exoperistalsis). The movement is inspired by the abdominal massage administered by physiotherapists to:

  • Activate the natural movement of the large intestine.
  • Encourage intestinal transit.
  • Improve stool consistency (makes it softer).
  • Eliminate abdominal bloating.
  • Reduce evacuation time.

What MOWOOT does not do is working on the anal sphincters. If you have a problem with the muscles of the sphincters, you will reduce the time of evacuation with MOWOOT, but to be able to evacuate you will still need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation). You do not know if this is your case? Try our constipation test.

02. How will I know that MOWOOT works? What will I observe?

The treatment provided by the device reinforces the movement that your intestines should do naturally. If you use it daily 20 minutes, you will observe the following changes:

  • The frequency of defecation will increase: you will go more often to the bathroom.
  • The fecal consistency will improve: your stools will be softer and it will be much easier to expel them.
  • You will spend less time with each evacuation.
  • You will no longer have the feeling that you have not finished emptying your bowel completely.
  • You will get rid of gases and your abdomen will be less bloated.
  • You will have more desire to eat and to include new foods in the diet.

The effectiveness of MOWOOT for solving constipation has been proven by a clinical study presented at the Congress of the Society of Geriatric Medicine of the European Union. All participants increased the mean number of stools per week and reported a significant improvement in stool consistency and a noticeable reduction in defecation time.

03. When will I begin to notice the results?

It depends on each patient, some of them have obtained results after few days of treatment, some others have needed a week or more to notice the benefits. Francesc, one of our patients, noticed that his intestine worked better after a couple of days using Mowoot.

Unlike other solutions, such as laxatives, MOWOOT improves its effectiveness over time and increases its benefits with every use.

In any case, within two months you should have noticed the beneficial effect of MOWOOT. Therefore, we offer a trial period: if you use it every day and do not notice improvement in two months, we will refund you the money* (except 50 € for management fees).

04. How long should I use MOWOOT?

The time of use depends a lot on the severity of your constipation (more time of use, more benefit) and your personal likes (the therapy is very pleasant). Nevertheless, in the early stage of the therapy, Mowoot should be used twice per day/20′ per session (at the same time).

05. Do I have to use MOWOOT several times a day?

The duration of your daily session(s) will depend on the severity of your constipation. At the early stage of the treatment you should use Mowoot two/three times per day for up to 20 minutes (always at the same time) in severe cases. After some initial weeks and, above all, after noticing all the benefits, the therapy can be adjusted to the specific needs of each patient, but we highly recommend to use it at least once per day/10 minutes.

06. What time of day is best to use MOWOOT?

It is advisable to always use MOWOOT at the same time of day to help the bowel return to a healthy routine. Ideally you should use it in the morning, after waking up, but it can be any other time of day that works for you.

The important thing is that you are relaxed and you do it without haste. If you do not have time in the morning, do it at night before bed or in the afternoon while reading or watching TV. You should find the moment that best fits you, the important part is that you are constant.

07. Can I use MOWOOT after eating?

Although MOWOOT does not affect the stomach, it is not advisable to use MOWOOT just after eating. It is better to have an empty stomach.

08. Does MOWOOT work with electrostimulation?

No, MOWOOT works by pneumatic technology. There is no electrostimulation or any other treatment involved that can cause adverse effects like spasms, etc.

The massage belt accurately reproduces the therapeutic abdominal mass through four pneumatic actuators, which inflate and deflate with compressed air to rhythmically press the abdomen, following the course of the ascending and descending colon.

09. Can MOWOOT apply too much pressure?

No, MOWOOT is equipped with sensors that constantly monitor that the applied pressure is adequate. If pressure above the recommended limits is applied, the device will sound an alarm and turn off after five seconds.

10. Will I need assistance with using MOWOOT?

No, MOWOOT can be used daily by most users, without help.

11. How do I choose my size of MOWOOT?

MOWOOT is available in four sizes depending on the perimeter of the belt:

  • Perimeter Small size: between 65 – 85 cm
  • Perimeter Medium size: between 80 – 100 cm
  • Perimeter Large size: between 950 – 115 cm
  • Perimeter Extra large size: between 110 – 130 cm

Choosing the size of MOWOOT is very easy: the waist is measured at the height of the bellybutton, sitting or lying (in the position where you want to use MOWOOT). This video explains how to choose your size.

12. The belt logo is not centered. Should I order another size?

Within each size there is a rank. Although the belt logo is not centered, this does not imply that another size is needed.

13. When I adjust MOWOOT I see the Velcro, should I order another size?

Within each size there is a rank. You may see part of the velcro exposed.

14. Does MOWOOT have contraindications?

The use of MOWOOT II is contraindicated if one or more of the following conditions are present:

  • Pregnancy
  • All forms of active, abdominal tumours or cancer in the abdomen
  • Acute inflammatory processes in the abdomen, such as diverticulitis, in the active thrust of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), appendicitis or bile duct inflammation, etc.
  • Unstable vertebral fracture
  • postoperative phase after surgery in the abdominal cavity
  • Intestinal obstruction (Ileus)
  • In general, the MOWOOT system should not be used if there is acute pain in the abdomen.
Read the user manual before using MOWOOT.

    15. Does MOWOOT have any side effects?

Adverse effects possibly related with the ICE device observed in the clinical study are: abdominal distension and abdominal pain (2%), diarrhoea, urinary infection and/or erythema (1%). In case of observing any of these symptoms or any other related with the use of Mowoot, please contact us through vigilancia@mowoot.com

    16. I have a dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters, can MOWOOT help me?

Are you unable to relax the sphincters at the time of defecation? Do you need more than five minutes to evacuate even if your stool is soft? Do you have to squeeze a lot to evacuate even if your stool is soft? If this is your case, you probably have a problem with the muscles of the sphincters; If you have consulted with a doctor, surely you have already been diagnosed that you have a dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters.

Spinal cord injured or patients with diseases such as Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis often suffer from this type of dysfunction as part of their illness. It is also common for elderly people to have this disorder. Dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters may also have developed due to childhood trauma (poor evacuation habits, repeated suppression of desire to defecate, sexual abuse, etc.).

Whatever your case, if you suffer a dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters, with MOWOOT you will reduce the evacuation time, but to be able to evacuate you will still need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation). This means that you will notice you have to stay less time in the bathroom as MOWOOT intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy stimulates the intestinal transit and makes the stool softer and easier to expel, but you still will need to stimulate the sphincter.

    17. I suffer diverticulosis, is MOWOOT suitable for me?

Yes, you can use MOWOOT if you have diverticulosis since the intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy favors the intestinal transit and therefore helps the emptying of the colon. Consequently, the likelihood of episodes of diverticulitis is reduced.

Important: In case of an episode of diverticulitis, it is necessary to stop using MOWOOT for the duration of the episode.

    18. I have recurrent episodes of constipation, is MOWOOT right for me?

If you experience recurrent episodes of constipation alternating with periods of bowel normality or periods of diarrhea, MOWOOT can help you during the episodes of constipation. The specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy will stimulate intestinal transit, improve the consistency of the stool (make them softer) and thus reduce the evacuation time.

Important: If you suffer from recurrent episodes of constipation, we recommend consulting your doctor to rule out inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome. It is not advisable to self-medicate, or to combat episodes of constipation or episodes of diarrhea.

    19. Since I’m on medication, I have constipation, is it normal? Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, it is normal for you to notice that you are constipated if you take medications for antidepressant and psychiatric treatments or to treat chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, kidney failure, etc.).

MOWOOT can help you resolve chronic constipation by activating the natural movement of the large intestine through a specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy that promotes intestinal transit, improves stool consistency (makes it softer) and therefore reduces evacuation time.

    20. With age, my constipation has become more pronounced, is it normal? Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, constipation has a greater incidence in the elderly. It is normal that, over the years, it gets more difficult to go to the bathroom, that you go less often and / or that you need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation) to be able to evacuate.

MOWOOT activates the natural movement that your large intestine should have through a specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy that favors the intestinal transit, improves the consistency of the stool (makes it softer) and therefore reduces the evacuation time.

If you have a problem with the muscles of the sphincters, with MOWOOT you will reduce the time of evacuation, but to be able to evacuate you will still need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation). You do not know if this is your case? We explain anorectal sphincter dysfunction (link to FAQ on anorectal dysfunction).

    21. With the menopause, my constipation has become more pronounced, is it normal? Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, constipation has a higher incidence after menopause. It is normal that it gets more difficult to go to the bathroom, that you go less often and / or that you need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation) to be able to evacuate.

We explain anorectal sphincter dysfunction.

    22. Could it be that I suffer from constipation due to my diet? Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, constipation has a higher incidence in people who eat a diet that is low in fiber and water. It is normal that it gets more difficult to go to the bathroom, that you go less often and / or that you need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation) to be able to evacuate.

MOWOOT activates the natural movement that your large intestine should have through a specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy that favors the intestinal transit, improves the consistency of the stool (makes it softer) and therefore reduces the evacuation time.

Some patients report that MOWOOT has changed their dietary habits and that since they use MOWOOT their “body has changed” and they can eat more things that they did not tolerate before.

    23. Since I was young, I have repressed the desire to go to the bathroom and now I suffer from constipation, is it normal? Can MOWOOT help me?

Are you unable to relax the sphincters at the time of defecation? Do you need more than five minutes to evacuate even if your stool is soft? Do you have to squeeze a lot to evacuate even if your stool is soft? If this is your case, you probably have a problem with the muscles of the sphincters; If you have consulted with a doctor, surely you have already been diagnosed that you have a dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters.

If you suffer a dysfunction in the anorectal sphincters, with MOWOOT you will reduce the evacuation time, but to be able to evacuate you will still need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation). This means that you will notice you have to stay less time in the bathroom as MOWOOT intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy stimulates the intestinal transit and makes the stool softer and easier to expel, but you still will need to stimulate the sphincter.

Important: If you suspect that you may have dysfunction of the anorectal sphincters, we recommend consulting your doctor to confirm the diagnosis.

    24. I have constipation since I suffered a spinal cord injury. Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, 60% of spinal cord injured patients suffer constipation due to neurogenic bowel syndrome: the autonomic nervous system does not function properly, the body loses control of its sphincters and the capacity to generate muscular contractions that, in waves, carry the bolus along the digestive tract (peristalsis).

MOWOOT activates the natural movement that your large intestine should have (peristalsis) through a specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy that favors the intestinal transit, improves the consistency of the stool (makes it softer) and therefore reduces the evacuation time.

However, MOWOOT does not solve the dysfunction of the anorectal sphincters, so in order to be able to evacuate you will still need an external physical stimulus (suppository, microenema or digital stimulation). What you will notice with MOWOOT is that you will have to spend less time in the bath because the MOWOOT intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy stimulates the intestinal transit and makes the stool softer and easier to expel: if you use MOWOOT, once you have applied the suppository or the microenema or you have helped with the fingers, you will expel the feces more easily and more quickly.

Spinal chord injured patients that have tried MOWOOT are delighted because it works very well for them. For example Artur. Do you want to know his experience?

    25. I have constipation due to a neurological disease. Can MOWOOT help me?

Yes, up to 80% of patients with neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease suffer from constipation due to neurogenic bowel syndrome: the autonomic nervous system does not function properly, the body loses control of its sphincters and the ability to generate muscle contractions that, in waves, carry the bolus along the digestive tract (peristalsis).MOWOOT activates the natural movement that your large intestine should have (peristalsis) through a specific intermitent colon exo-peristaltic therapy that favors the intestinal transit, improves the consistency of the stool (makes it softer) and therefore reduces the evacuation time.
