MOWOOT non-pharma & non-invasive solution to chronic constipation has won the Audience Award in the Medtech category, the overall Audience Award as the company with the most votes of all 3 categories and also got the 2nd place of the Jury awards in the Medtech category of the EIT Health Catapult at EIT Health Summit. The event took place on December 4th to 5th in London.
EIT Health promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in healthy living and active ageing. It is a consortium of more than 50 core partners and 90 associate partners from leading businesses, research centres and universities from across 14 European countries. EIT Health is part of Horizon 2020 framework of the European Commission, the biggest EU research and innovation programme ever.
The EIT Health Catapult journey started in July: 172 start-ups applied to EIT Health Catapult from all over Europe. The best 42 start-ups entered step 2, the top 2 in each category: Medtech, Biotech and digital representing their regions.
The 42 semi-finalists participated in a series of local workshops with a final pitch competition to select the finalists. Our CEO, Dr. Markus Wilhelms, represented MOWOOT at the Medtech training and selection which took place at IESE Business School campus in Barcelona on October 9th-11st.
During these local sessions, the selected medtech entrepreneurs received inputs from Mathieu de Rooij (ZBM Patents), Alex Casta (Caixa Capital Risc), Michael Tadros (Fundación Botín), Andy Li (Biosense Global) and the coach Beth Susanne. The involved start-ups had the chance to promote their ideas to potential investors and industrial partners and to meet with mentors and colleagues from another innovative health start-ups based around Europe.
MOWOOT was among the seven medtech start-ups selected in Barcelona to compete in EIT Health Catapult finals, so the MOWOOT founder team flew to London, as did 20 other European start-ups, to compete at the EIT Health Summit 2017 on December 4th-5th.
During the EIT Health Catapult finals, Markus Wilhelms received the public award in the Medtech category on behalf of MOWOOT, being the company with the most votes of all 3 categories. The second day of the Summit, MOWOOT got the 2nd place of the Jury awards in the Medtech category. The public, health professionals, assessed MOWOOT’s value proposal while the jury of investors valued MOWOOT from that perspective.
“The big goals of EIT Health, supporting active aging, promoting healthy living and improving healthcare, are perfectly aligned with MOWOOT’s value proposal and aim. We are living very successful and happy days during this EIT Health Summit in London. This recognition gives an important boost to the MOWOOT project and the entire team”, says Markus Wilhelms.
